Precarious Futures: Sustaining Syrian Refugee Rights in Lebanon and Beyond

Upinion is a proud member of the Refugee Protection Watch (RPW) coalition — a collective of Syrian, Lebanese, and international organizations working together since 2019 to monitor the situation of Syrian refugees in Lebanon and advocate for their rights. In the wake of the Assad regime’s fall in December 2024, RPW’s annual report “Precarious Futures: Sustaining Syrian Refugee Rights in Lebanon and Beyond” sheds light on what these political shifts mean for displaced Syrians.

Drawing on qualitative and quantitative data collected by RPW members, including Upinion’s digital conversations and real-time engagement with Syrian and Lebanese communities, the report highlights return intentions, conditions in host countries and gaps in humanitarian aid. Despite changes on the ground, safe, voluntary, dignified, and informed returns remain far from a reality for most. Refugees continue to face legal uncertainty, economic hardship, insecurity, and growing anti-refugee sentiment in Lebanon, while also being excluded from decisions about their own future.
